'Aggressively' Treating Addiction

At Nova Counseling Services, we are a primary SUD (Substance Use Disorder) facility—meaning our focus is entirely on treating addiction at its core. We understand that the disease of addiction is deadly and can destroy lives faster than any secondary condition. Whether a client is with us for 28 days in our residential program (Nova) or extends their stay for 90 days in our transitional living program (Terra), the time we have together is short. In that brief window, we are addressing a disease that is progressive, cunning, baffling, and powerful—and one that never stops working against those it affects.
Because our time is limited, we get to work right away. We know this disease brings challenges—manipulation, denial, irritability, and a focus on external issues instead of internal growth. That’s why we’ve built a program rooted in structure, boundaries, and accountability, designed to give every client the best possible chance to heal. When those boundaries are broken, we make difficult decisions to uphold the integrity of our program and preserve a healthy, recovery-focused community.
Our foundation is built on 12-step principles that have stood the test of time since the 1930s. These principles may not align with modern “quick-fix” solutions, but we know there is no synthetic cure for a spiritual illness. Healing requires surrender, vulnerability, and connection—qualities that cannot be manufactured, only experienced through honest work and community.
We work hard to help our clients see the unmanageability and powerlessness that addiction brings. This often means holding up a mirror—sometimes through process groups, sometimes through the stories of others—so clients can truly see the impact of their disease. These moments of clarity can be painful, but they open the door to transformation.
We know addiction never takes a minute off. But if we can quiet the disease, even for a short time, and help our clients see life through a new lens, we can give them what they need most: tools for recovery, a community of support, and trusted partners for the journey ahead.
At Nova, we’ve created a Culture of Recovery—one that begins with how we speak, how we carry ourselves, and how we extend compassion to everyone who walks through our doors. It’s not just what we do—it’s who we are.
