Nova’s Compassionate
Recovery Support Philosophy

We understand that admission to an alcohol and drug abuse treatment facility can be stressful—but it may be the only way to get well and make lasting life changes. At Nova, we try to help all clients feel welcome, from their first contact through their discharge. Our continuum of care includes our 28-day Residential Program, our 90-day Terra transitional living program and aftercare support for clients and families.

Pre-admission Process for Recovery Support

When you first contact Nova, we gather information to determine whether our recovery services are a good fit. This includes details on:

  • Past treatments

  • Risk factors

  • General health and wellness

  • Substance use history

  • Legal history

  • Mental health status

Nova does not have medical or psychiatric staff on hand and only treats clients whose substance use is the primary diagnosis.

Exams, Detox
and Medications

Before admission into Nova’s treatment programs, you will need a medical exam to ensure you are ready for treatment and free of communicable diseases. You’ll also be tested for tuberculosis. If necessary, Nova can provide transportation to a local hospital or clinic for this checkup and testing. The cost of the exam and tuberculosis test is not included in our treatment rate.

In some cases, admission may take place before the exam. Within 48 hours, those clients will be brought to a hospital or clinic. If the exam shows detoxification services are needed, our staff will work with the client—and, if appropriate, the family—to arrange this care.

Detoxification

Quitting some substances “cold
turkey” can lead to serious medical complications. Detoxification is sometimes needed to prevent serious medical complications and must be completed before beginning treatment at Nova.

While we cannot admit someone who needs detox treatment, we can determine if it’s necessary during the initial phone screening. If detox is required, our staff can help you find critical medical care before your recovery continues at Nova.

Prescription Medication

Antidepressants and certain mental health medications, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT), are welcome at Nova if they’re appropriate for an individual’s care plan. Other prescriptions, like pain pills and muscle relaxants that carry risk of misuse, are not allowed. In every case, a doctor must be involved in medication changes are needed.

Payment, Greetings
and Goodbyes

Nova admits new Residential Program clients from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. (Late admissions may be approved by the clinical director.)
We ask that clients arrive with family or friends rather than driving themselves.

Upon arrival, our staff will great clients and meet with them privately to answer questions, check for withdrawal symptoms and help them prepare for treatment.

Insurance coverage or payment details will be reviewed, and families will receive information about visiting hours, client contact and our Family Support Program. Afterward, clients will have the opportunity to say goodbye.

Affordable Recovery Services for Men

At Nova, delivering high-quality care at an affordable cost is fundamental to our mission as a nonprofit organization. Our reasonable rates allow many clients to pay during admission, either by cash, check or credit card. Insurance benefits are paid to Nova by most major health insurance plans and Medicaid/BadgerCare Plus. If you have insurance coverage questions, let us know.
