Recovery Month: Building Connection, Hope, and Community

September is Recovery Month, a time to recognize the strength it takes to ask for help, remind our community that no one has to walk the journey alone, and most of all a time to celebrate recovery. At Nova Recovery, we believe recovery is more than completing treatment. It is about finding support, developing new, healthy relationships, growing connections, and creating a community where we all can grow together. This Recovery Month, we are proud to create additional opportunities for connection, education, and fellowship within the community.

Building Community Through Our Family Series

A major highlight here at Nova Recovery is our Recovery Month Family Series, held every Monday evening from 5:30-7:00pm. Recovery impacts much more than the individual. It impacts families, communities, and relationships. Our Family Series works to give the opportunity for the public to come together as a community to learn more about recovery and addiction, ask questions, share experiences, and develop the tools needed in order to support themselves and loved ones.

The key part of these evenings is connection. Families experience uncertainty, fear, frustration, and hope within the recovery process. Being able to have a space where people can come together and realize that they are not alone can make a meaningful difference. Everyone is welcome. Whether you are supporting someone currently in treatment, have a loved one in recovery, or want to learn more about recovery and addiction, we invite you to join.

Open Meetings Every Tuesday 7:00 PM

Community and peer support are also a crucial part within the recovery journey. Every Tuesday night at 7:00 PM, Nova Recovery hosts open AA/NA meetings, giving the opportunity for individuals within recovery to gather and come together as a community. These meetings serve and give a place for individuals to listen, connect, share, and find encouragement from others who understand the rewards along with challenges in recovery. This is one of the ways Nova Recovery works to connect individuals with recovery resources and bring together a supportive community in Oshkosh.

Recovery Is Stronger Together

Recovery is a personal journey, however, it does not have to be a lonely one.

For many individuals experiencing substance use, isolation can be a struggle. Relationships can become tough to rebuild and it may feel sometimes as if no one understands what they are going through. Taking the step toward recovery can feel overwhelming, but having people beside you can make that step feel possible. Community can be a critical part of healing.

At Nova Recovery, we believe that recovery is strengthened when individuals have people they can turn to, places where they feel safe and welcome, and opportunities to build connections that matter. Whether that connection comes through family support, treatment, recovery meetings, relationships, or simply sitting among others who understand that every connection can be meaningful. Building a strong community means creating space where people can show up without the feeling of fear or judgment. It means celebrating progress, supporting one another during difficult moments, and recognizing that everyone’s journey is unique.

This also means being aware that recovery affects the entire community and not just the individual. Families need support. Friends need understanding and education. People within recovery need the opportunity to grow in healthy relationships and feel a sense of belonging. Communities need resources that make it easier for individuals to seek the help they may need, along with stay connected. That is why Nova Recovery provides opportunities for connection throughout the year, and especially during Recovery Month. We want to help strengthen the recovery community throughout not only Oshkosh, but Wisconsin by connecting families and individuals with education, resources, peer support, and opportunities to grow and build healthy relationships.

Celebrating Recovery Month in Wisconsin

Recovery Month is an opportunity to challenge the stigma that surrounds substance use disorders and addiction. For many individuals, seeking treatment can be one of the most difficult decisions and steps that they take. Shame, fear, stigma, and uncertainty can prevent individuals from reaching out for help.

Recovery Month reminds us that recovery is possible and asking for help is a sign of strength. At Nova Recovery, we are proud to support the individuals and families as they take the steps towards more fulfilling, and healthier lives. This September, we invite the Wisconsin community to join us in celebrating recovery, supporting families, and building stronger connections. If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction or substance use, you do not have to navigate the journey alone. Recovery starts with one step. Nova Recovery is here to walk it with you.
